1.What and who is Headrocka Productions?

“ It’s a studio and production and company that I started. When I’m working with Churches HeadRocka stands for Jesus Christ is the head and on this Rock I Build my church. When I’m working with Secular groups it stands for noddin; ya head to a beat or Rockin’ ya head to music. So it sort of has a double meaning.”

2. How did you guys get started?

“Pretty much I started playing the piano in church and the drums and it kind led me into production and owning a studio.”

3. What is your primary focus in music production?

“My focus is working on the Word Mix Project. Which is a project I work with Ministers, Pastors, motivational speakers and put their sermons or speeches to music.

4. Where are you headed in the future with your music and production?

“Make a lot of money and have a serious Clientele of Ministers and motivational speakers.

5. How long have you been doing music production?

“For about Six Years now”

 6. What type of instruments and production tools are you working with?

“I’m working with Pro Tools, Reason, MPC2000, Triton Extreme, Motif, EMU Proteus, and a lot computer software”

7. What exactly is the Word mix project?

“It’s away to take your message to the next level by adding hip hop and R&B music to your spoken words. It Echo’s the word that your trying most to get across to your audience. “

 8. How did you start the word mix project?

“I was listening to my Pastor preach one Sunday and I thought it would be even more powerful if I could put Music to the message. It would also reach more young people.” It was like one day I was eating chocolate and it dropped into my peanut butter and I had Reese pieces.

9. Do you mainly do Gospel music?

“uh, yeah mainly Gospel, but I do Hip Hop and R&B.”

10. How did you get involved in music originally and how has your music career grown?

“I grew up mainly listen to the radio and listen to the tracks and the singers. I got involved through my uncle’s and nephews who played organ and drums. I sort of learned from them.”

11. How does playing in the Church help or hinder your approach to music production?

“Actually it helps a lot it helps with area of knowing your scales. If you’re working with an R&B artist it well help you pick up the song. Now when it comes to hip - hop I don’t know if it benefits me as much.” When you’re working with Gospel singers you have to know how to play.

12. Do you feel that today’s Gospel artist are being to influenced by secular artist or is the other way around?

“ I think they both work hand in hand. I don’t think you can say it either way. Music is a universal language so I think they both are influenced the same.”

13. Is there a bright future for Gospel Rap or do you think the market is as big as it will get?

“That’s a good question, I think it will grow but not that much, not like secular Hip Hop. Because, Gospel rap is kind of limited in what you can say. Where secular Hip Hop in general can talk about anything. I think there is room for growth in Gospel Hip Hop but I don’t know if it’ll ever be mainstream.

14. Where do you want to take your music?

“I want to take my music to the next level. Have it on the radio, Internet, television, movie soundtracks things of that nature.”

15. Who all is involved in Headrocka Production?

“It’s me, Joseph “Jothoven” Cunningham, My partner Mozart who also has his own production company. Then I have this gentlemen named Roy Smoove who actually does the marketing for my company.”
